Yeah but the wayis worded sets my senses tingling somewhere....Y'know, if somebody like Phil were to illustrate it, I bet we might be able to get an Alpha Flight series to sell at that…

Part of the trouble with the maple leaf is the perspective / the wrapping around his body.
But that's only part.
Apart from Guardian being there, it looks to me like the team as Byrne quit the book (and since Talisman joined after his death, that particular line-up doesn't make sense in any 616 timeline).

Digger,
Can't help but notice that you live where my Dad was born. All the way back in 1923...

I had the very special honor of getting Phil Jiminez to sign my copy today at the Marvel Booth at NYCC 2010. Weird thing was both Stan Lee (yes, that Stan Lee) and Phil from alphaflight.net were both a few steps away from me at the time - Stan was on the Marvel stage signing autographs and Phil from alphaflight.net was a few people behind me on the line.
When I showed the comic to Phil Jiminez, he told me it was the first time he had seen it in print! I pointed out my favorite parts of the cover: notably the pointy ears on Northstar (though it's sad that one has to distinguish this minor issue from so many other depictions of Northstar with rounded ears), the green magical flames from Talisman as well as the snowy effects on the lower part of the cover. Phil Jiminez then sort of dropped into a bit of a pedagogical mode, telling me that the snow wasn't his, just the colorist and then started to really emphasize how a colorist can have a big effect on the finished artwork. He was like, 'No, no I really want to make a point here about the colorist...' I agreed with him of course, and we both agreed that the snowy effects were pretty cool. Then he admitted that he heard he got the maple leaf wrong on Guardian's costume. I tried to explain how it was supposed to look, but he insisted that he had copied the shape from a Byrne image, and owed the misshapennes of the maple leaf to the fact that Guardian's stance was not exactly straight on. I really think that he did make an attempt to draw the maple leaf element of the costume, but nevertheless it came out looking odd.
Well it sure was cool to meet the guy!

Cool story, rplass.
Did he hear that from somebody ahead of you in line, or has he been reading this site? Then he admitted that he heard he got the maple leaf wrong on Guardian's costume.

I don't know who he heard it from! You think he googled himself and found this post? Ha!
rplass,
Im just amazed you knew what Phil from the site looks like. I live near PWalk from the site but I wouldnt know him even if I sat next to him in Fargo de Chow or Chicki and Petes. I know what Ben looks like cuz of his wedding pics but I still wouldnt know him like that if we sat next to each other on a bus.
@Mos
You should keep away from those buses. Not only are they killing people (at least, at my work, we're always worried about 'what if so-and-so got hit by a bus?'), but apparently they're taking away your ability to recognise people.
Dangerous things, buses.

Ah, we voluntarily sent pics to each other for the purpose of meeting up, which we eventually did!
He smells a lot better than I thought he would, by the way. And he's completely different in person than what you'd think - he's actully a really nice guy! Here's a pic of us together:
We actually toasted, "To Alpha Flight - the greatest superhero team the world has ever known!" heh, what a great moment!
Love,
rplass
Two guys looking as unshaven as me, but I didn't go anywhere.
Keep your stick on the ice.
Live it.
He's the one with the British accent. I should add that when I said he was a realy nice guy, that only applies to sober Phil. See, he starts out all:
"Yip, yip! Jolly good, chap!"
then after a few beers, he's all:
"God shave the Queen!"
but after he's had too much, he's quite the insufferable drunk and just randomly spittle-shouts:
"Oh, Bloody hell! Bloody hell everywhere!"
So it's quite easy to tell us apart. I doubt you'd have any problem.
Love,
rplass
