EDIT: But... To be honest I can't remember when Witchfire was introduced... don't know if she was a part of Gamma Flight, with no background (because she didn't get any development until MUCH later)... but I don't know if she's a Byrne creation who was just a name, with no development till later... or if she was simply created later...?

EDIT2: Actually, she appears to be a Byrne creation too, since she shows her first appearance as Alpha Flight V1 #1.

She's definitely not in #1:

Marvel wiki says her first appearance was AF 79 which was when Gamma Flight got made Canadas team in Alphas abscene. And only two characters from that team, Wild Child and Diamond Lil, had any connection with previous Gamma Flights.
