Alpha Flight seems to be racking up the commisions at The John Byrne Forums.
Impressive
I like last week's better, but I'd take either in a heartbeat.
Talisman seems a bit off, other than that though its pretty nice. I like the two images overlapping.
I'd go with last weeks as well Ryan, mainly because on the last two pics of Talisman there seems to be a problem with her mouth, nothing major. However that is a minor thing and the Wendigo more than makes up for it.Quote:

Agreed, that is an amazing Shaman.
I actually thought how he overlapped the two images were pretty cool.
That is another amazing AF pic. Talisman's face is a bit strange, but I've noticed on a few of his recent commissions the characters' expressions are a bit exagerated (another example is his Storm pic).

I think Talisman tiara is not right. The center piece is not like that.
I'd go with that, the first Storm did not look right at all, while the second, although better, still had that cartoony feel to it. That Shaman on the other hand is excellent and reinforces my choice for a commision if I could ever afford it.Quote:

Seeing that Shaman makes me realise that Clayton's Shaman (although we didn't see much of him) wasn't far off facially.
Just beautiful.
It's good to see JB drawing Alpha again, and this is excellent.
He's at it again.
that pic looks strangely like mac with long hair.
interesting quote from mr. byrne:
Quote:
I think I have mentioned before that, around 15 years ago, I came within hailing distance of "returning" to Alpha Flight. An openly Gay editor, up at Marvel, contacted me about an idea he had for a series with Northstar teamed with another character. I worked out some ideas, and we agreed on a game plan for the book. Then we submitted the proposal to the Powers That Were. It was rejected, based, we were told, on me asking "too much money" to do it. (For pencils, inks and script I was asking half what the Kubert bros. were getting just for pencils!)
It was pretty sad and obvious that the real reason the project was rejected was that the PTW were afraid to do a series with an openly homosexual lead.
To answer your other question -- yes, I do feel faint nostalgic tingles doing these AF pieces. Probably because it's nice to see them actually drawn well after all these years.*
*I refer to my own work on ALPHA, not that of others.
I don't really like either one of them, but the standalone Shaman is the better of the two.
Ok which one of you is the rich sonofa***** paying for these commissions?
That little tidbit about him returning to the characters is an interesting little tale. How great would that have been?
I like both pics.
I'd give my left *beep* for the Shaman commision! I always liked Shaman!
I liked shaman aswell.. his first costume was always the best, and i liked the idea of him leadign Beta Flight, If Alpha was as big as X-men I could definantly see Shaman leading one of the side teams. I don't see him ever having a solo series but he seriously is a great leader.
Two of them are mine. Let's just say, I won't be giving Barnacle my address. I'm sure he's...attached... to his left *beep* and his children prefer home to slavery :D The other two commissions, I don't know who ordered those.Quote:

Yeah, Delphine Courtney disguised as Guardian turned it inside out & Talisman became trapped inside! Loved the Shaman pic, can anyone recommend some other Byrne Marvel titles worth reading?
hulk, she-hulk, west coast avengers, fantastic four and of course xmen.
I also enjoyed his Iron Fist and Namor run.
...looks like it would be a good conflict, though I wouldn't give good odds that all of AF would survive. Don't know that for sure, just guessing, still feel AF would be more vulnerable than most other groups, if written like it was in the past: Mac, Sasquatch (#23), Aurora, Northstar, and Talisman (#24) all got bumped off...but in imaginative ways.
However, since this thread is about JB's artwork...I like it, though I think Talisman is starting to look like the character from Blood of the Demon.
Small quibble.
Wonder why all of the Alpha Flight artwork...especially since the group has not been a favorite of his?
thanks guys :)
More JBF Alpha Flight Trivia.
As I said in the Action Figure thread...Somebody should really let JB know that a lot of heroes and villains start as One-Notes (they all have potential to become more than that)....Wolverine (created to fight the Hulk), for example?
Dana
Chris Durnell writes that "Marvel did not offer Roger Stern the West Coast Avengers title even though he had done the limited series and...I also remember other limited series leading to regular series, but the first creative team was not used..."
I hope---after all the hard work and dedication that is obviously going into the Omega Flight limited series---that Scott and Mike get the opportunity to continue drawing and writing a Flight series and that MARVEL doesn't pass it on to someone who does not share their committment to the characters and the fans.
Hate to resurrect an old thread, but I thought I'd continue this one with another Alpha-related Byrne commission...Instead of starting a whole new thread.

I think it's quite good...I love seeing Heather and Mac again.
Dana
Good spot Dana, I saw that the other day, but didn't notice the Hudsons.
One thing I don't exactly like about JB, is that while his work is good, it hasn't really evolved at all in the last 30 years. I feel that after a point things become less art and more character modeling.
Old thread, new commision.
Somebody on the Byrning thread wished Diablo would be used more.
Just thought I'd mention, he turned up in a recent New Warriors II* #10. Even though that information does no good to this forum.
* The volume #is 4, but I call it New Warriors II because it's a whole brand new thing, in a way #s 2 and 3 weren't.

"Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-eight million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue-green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea."
- Douglas Adams, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
I know this has been discussed in this forum before, but I lost track of which thread.
Can anyone tell me how much John Byrne charges for a commission? How much would he charge for just one character?
Thank you!
Sending over a PM, birdy.
Thanks, I've received it. :)
Tis another one.
That is a nice one (It's Mac, not that G#@-da%$ed Michael Pointer). Thanks Del.
