History
Very little is known about Gardner Monroe prior to his career as Flashback. In efforts to recruit Canadian super heroes into the Department H program, James MacDonald Hudson discovered Gardner Monroe. Joining the training team Gamma Flight, and later graduating to Beta Flight, Monroe took on the code-name Flashback. When the Canadian Government disbanded Alpha Flight, and canceled the Department H program, Flashback, along with all the other trainees, was left in the cold.
Some time after Beta Flight was disbanded, Monroe was approached by Jerome Jaxon's robotic assistant Delphine Courtney. She gathered many of the former trainees and used a device to enhance their embittered emotions toward Hudson for not having taken care of them, as he had with Alpha Flight. He agreed to join a new team, Omega Flight, to exact their revenge on Hudson. During the battle with Omega Flight], Hudson shorted out the power supply in his Guardian battle suit to stop Jaxon], who was in control of the Box armour. When his power supply was destroyed, it was belived by both Alpha Flight and Omega Flight that Hudson had been killed.
Masquerading as Guardian, Delphine Courtney extended Jaxon's plans of revenge to Hudson's wife Heather, as well as Alpha Flight. Flashback was once more drafted into Omega Flight, as they ambushed Alpha Flight in the West Edmonton Mall. Alpha Flight managed to turn the tables on Omega Flight, causing Courtney, Diamond Lil, and Flashback to flee together. They came upon former Gamma Flight member Madison Jeffries. Being loyal to Guardian, he transmuted a car into a giant robot to battle Courtney. When the Jeffries-controlled robot swung at Courtney, she used one of Flashback's future selves as a shield, killing the future version. Driven mad by the realization that one day he would simply vanish, Monroe was eventually imprisoned. Some years later, Diamond Lil informed Alpha Flight that he had vanished one day from his prison cell; it was assumed his past had finally caught up with him. This was in fact not to be the case.
Years after, though it hadn't been revealed how he vanished from prison, Monroe re-surfaced. After the incident at the West Edmonton Mall, Monroe reasoned that were he to swear off being Flashback and destroy his costume, he could not be called to his past and be killed. One morning however, he awoke to discover the mirrored version of his suit hanging in his bathroom waiting for him. No matter what he did, he kept finding himself dressed in the negative suit. Out of desperation, Monroe tracked down Sasquatch and his All New, All Different Alpha Flight. Though he had come looking for the "real" Alpha Flight, he did convince this incarnation of the team to assist him. Alpha Flight member Nemesis killed him with her enchanted sword, needing his blood to effect time travel. After several attempts and many errors in the time stream, Alpha Flight managed to save Flashback from his doom.
Powers/Abilities
Flashback is able to pull future versions of himself into the present. Once they have been temporally displaced, they are under his control, wearing a reversely coloured costume from his own.
