History

The Dreamqueen is the product of the union between the demon Nightmare and a Succubus named Zhilla Char. Relaxing after a night haunting the dreams of mortal men, Zhilla Char wandered too close to the borders of the realm of Nightmare. Having inpregnated her, Nightmare banished her to a lesser realm. Knowing that demon mothers become their own children at birth, Char vowed revenge through her own daughter who would soon be born. However when the Dreamqueen emerged she found she could not hate her father, for she had her own world which she could forge and rule as she saw fit. Over the years her domain became her prison and she began to look for a way to escape. To this end when the Astral form of Nanquato, Shaman of the now extinct indian tribe the Chickaqua appeared in her realm, searching for the sky gods in an attempt to deliver his people from a drought which was killing their crops, the Dreamqueen promised to help if he would take a small totem back to his people. The Dreamqueen intended to establish a link to the earth's plane of reality. After returning to his tribe the Shaman started a ceremony to bring forth rain, but while he saw rain falling, his people could only see demons which the Dreamqueen had sent to cause terror and thus create a psychic link to this plane. Nightmare however, had warned a brave within the tribe, what was really happening through a dream. He killed the Shaman and, insisting that no-one touch the Totem , had it and Nanquato buried within a stone cairn. Once again the Dreamqueen was trapped within her realm. Hundreds of years later a creature not of her creation appeared within her realm. Going against her natural instincts to inflict suffering, she watched the creature. This creature ,Goblyn, made her aware of the existence of Alpha Flight and bought her into direct conflict with them.

During the battle against The Great Beasts at Bedlam's artic base, Laura Dean had transported herself and Persuasion to Liveworld, which is what she called the Dreamqueen's realm. When the danger was over, Laura and Persuasion changed places again with Goblyn, but the Dreamqueen had become aware of the two human visitors and saw them as a possible means into this realm of reality. Laura became aware of a threatened danger to Goblyn and opening a pathway to Liveworld she pulled the rest of Alpha Flight through with her. Alpha arrive on Liveworld and while searching for missing comrades find themselves in conflict with the Dreamqueen's Dream Warriors.

Meanwhile ex Alphan Puck has been attempting to thwart the Chinese army, who have been trying to subdue a monastry of dissedent monks. Given the choice of escaping or pulling Alpha back into this plane of reality by a monk with mystical knowledge, Puck chooses to pull Alpha back, but the Dreamqueen followed. Alpha Flight found themselves fighting imagined opponents and Puck realised that the enemies were imaginary. He attacked the Dreamqueen and Laura Dean opened a gateway back to Liveworld , Puck draged the Dreamqueen through, but before Laura could close the gateway, The Dreamqueen planted psychic seeds within each Alphan's mind. Alpha returned to Canada, mourning the loss of Puck for the second time.¹

Some time later Alpha Flight gathered together to discuss the bizarre dreams that each member has been experiencing. The dreams, caused by the Dreamqueen's psychic seeds had enabled her to forge a way into this reality. She appeared at this meeting and disabled the team.

Elizabeth Twoyoungmen, who was part of the archeological team who re-discovered Nanquato's body and the Dreamqueen's Totem became aware of the Dreamqueen's intentions by the spirit of Snowbird and made her way to assist the team. Meanwhile the Dreamqueen had made her way to the centre of Edmonton. Yo give herself time to extend her influence over the city, she manipulated the Chinese super team China Force into attacking Alpha, by convincing them that they are actually in China and Alpha had invaded. After Alpha defeated China Force they confronted the Dreamqueen in a skyscraper, where she has based her operations. It was then that the spirit of Snowbird returned Walter Langowski back into male form. Fighting their way through the floors where the Dreamqueen had put many psychic obstacles, Alpha finally reached the floor where she was, only to find that Talisman, was there already. Distracting the Dreamqueen, Alpha had Laura Dean open another gateway and they managed to bundle her back to her own realm.²

Thwarted a second time by Alpha Flight, the Dreamqueen bided her time and when the members of Beta Flight were transported to Liveworld by an injured Laura Dean she made no real attempt to enter this reality, but instead sent her Dream Warriors in pursuit of Beta. Pathway managee to open a gateway and the team escape back to Department H before any adversaries could catch them. ³

The Dreamqueen made no further attempts to enter this reality, realising that time is not really an issue to someone as long lived as herself. It was only when she became aware of the plans of Joshua Lord that she became concerned that if his plans came to fruition the Earth would become a place where no one would have any imagination or independent thought. She felt that if this scenario happened then there would be no chance of her ever being able to forge a link to this plain of reality. To avoid this she made Alpha Flight aware of Lords plans by causing them to dream of the future. Alpha Flight acted on the dreams they had had and managed to thwart Lords plans.⁴

Unconfirmed Activity

There are also unconfirmed reports of a further incursion by The Dreamqueen into this reality following the Joshua Lord incident. Although details are limited, it would seem that she managed to enter this reality and attacked Beta Flight within the confines of Department H. Allied with Dream Warriors dressed in surgical apparell, she is only just thwarted by Beta Flight, who use skills and knowledge gleaned from their training.⁵

Powers/Abilities

Dreamqueen has some of the power of Nightmare and a nature almost as perverse. Her own father imprisoned her so he wouldn’t have the competition

Agility: Dreamqueen has enhanced human agility, which is beyond the natural limits of the human body.

Crystal Ball: With this item, Dreamqueen can view into other dimensions to specific targets and locations and see exactly what transpires.

Dream Totem : An item constructed by Dreamqueen and sent to Earth, if one touches it they immediately fall under the control of her power

Dream Manipulation: Dreamqueen can probe and alter persons memories as she sees fit even when she is in her realm manipulating someone on Earth

Dream Scan: Dreamqueen can cast a spell that probes the minds of those who she chooses and create a Dream-Map, which she can use to gather information such as how she created a Dream-Map of every hero ever bored the name Alpha from Sasquatch’s mind

Dream Warriors: Dreamqueen can create an unlimited supply of warriors that she can conjure up with her mind. If she is on Earth, enough magic has to have spilled over onto Earth to create an unlimited army.

Durability: Dreamqueen possesses Godlike durability, which allows her to reconstitute her body after total molecular disintegration

Insight: Upon entering Earth she can probe a persons mind and gather information from a person and knowledge of the surrounding area. She performed this feat 3000 miles away

Intelligence: Dreamqueen has gifted intelligence, which entails she possesses a significantly higher than average IQ

Liveworld: In Liveworld, Dreamqueen's powers were without hinderance allowing her virtually unlimited ability to manipulate the forces of magic for a variety of effects, including levetation, teleportation, size transformations, transmutations, energy manifestations such as powerful concussive blasts, creation of animate being obedient to her will

Mind Manipulation: Dreamqueen has virtually unlimited ability to control the minds and warp the perceptions of others. She can attack or alter a persons mind, such as if one of her “dream” constructs kills you in your mind you will in fact die as for what you to believe to be real can actually kill you. Upon entering Earth she can stretch her mind out controlling anyone in the vicinity filling their minds with mad dreams, unknownily committing crimes all in the name of Dreamqueen. She possessed all of Edmonton, Detriot and Chicago in mere hours, and in a days time her dark dreams would have spread the entire continent until Alpha Flight stopped her

Mind Spell: A spell casted by Dreamqueen that can take over a persons mind and they do her bidding

Psychic Link: On Earth she had the power to alter ones perception, and if those she manipulated from her realm on Earth experienced great fear it feeds her psychic link giving her more strength.

Physic Seeds: She planted these seeds in each member of Alpha Flight before being sent back to her realm by Puck. These seeds would sprout in their dark corners of their subconscious feeding upon their weakness and inner fears. Their nightmares were utter fantasies born of delusion and insecurity. They were formed out of their most recent concerns. As each aberration reached its zenith, a bond of fear would grow into the Dreamqueen’s world allowing her to grow stronger and a means to escape.

Reality Manipulation: While in Liveworld, Dreamqueen has complete control over this realm, the very fabric of its landscape was hers to sculpt at will, such as to create a paradise or destroy it where there is nothing left with a mere thought. She observes and knows all in this realm

Reflexes: Dreamqueen has enhanced human reflexes, which is beyond the natural limits of the human body.

Speed: Dreamqueen has enhanced human speed allowing her to reach a peak speed of 61-65 mph.

Stamina: Dreamqueen has enhanced human stamina allowing her to sustain peak physical exertion before fatigue impairs performance for several hours.

Strength: Dreamqueen has enhanced human strength, allowing her to press 800lbs – 2 ton range.
