This is the comic book,

Just wondering, what is the race of this spider-man? I'm asking because Miles Morales is the Black and Latino descent, while Peter Parker is Caucasian. But isn't the Marvel Ultimate series continuity based on Miles and not Peter, or is this a new spin-off spider man series in its own right?

Pretty sure this is Miles. If you look at the Spidey on the cover, it definitely looks like a pre-teen kid (or however young Miles is supposed to be).

It's not Miles. It's Peter Parker. Don't confuse Ultimate Spider-Man with Ultimate Comics Spider-Man. Silly to use the word "Ultimate" to describe both Spidey-serieses.
It's a good show BTW, especially because White Tiger is so kick-butt.

I just bought this issue today. Marvel Universe Ultimate Spider-Man just replaced the all ages Marvel Adventures Spider-Man book. Makes economic sense to create a comic book based on the new Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. Marvel Adventures Spider-Man was selling poorly even though I enjoyed Paul Tobin's stories.
This first issue is written by Man of Action (Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Steve Seagle and Duncan Rouleau) and Dan Slott and Ty Templeton. The book is divided up into two stories based around the cartoon. First story drawn by Nuno Plati and the second story drawn by Ty Templeton.
There was a free Ultimate Spider-Man Premiere comic in stores last month. I believe that issue was just screencaps of the first episode lettered by Chris Eliopoulis. If your LCS is out, you can download it for free from comiXology.

I was tempted to buy it until I saw the writing credits. Not people whose writing I'm in love with (not that I've seen Rouleau as a writer).
Still, I'm aiming more for kids' comics, if I can find them... what's out there?

Ah yes, the all ages books were talked about in previous thread, as you probably recall
http://alphaflight.net/showthread.php?5769-Good-article-on-saving-the-industry
And that Bleeding Cool article - How Marvel, DC And You Can Save The Comic Industry by Phil Hampton
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/08/10/how-marvel-dc-and-you-can-save-the-comic-industry-by-phil-hampton/
Since that article ran, Marvel Universe Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel Universe Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes have replaced Marvel Adventures Spider-Man and Marvel Adventures Super Heroes. I think the Dorothy & The Wizard in Oz mini series will be ending soon. And John Carter: The Gods of Mars mini just came out last month.
And on the DC side, Batman: Brave and the Bold ended in February. Basically replaced with Green Lantern the Animated Series. And there is a Superman Family Adventures premiering next month, replacing the now cancelled Tiny Titans by the same creative team. I think Looney Toons has also been cancelled.
Marvel:
John Carter: The Gods of Mars (mini-series)
Dorothy & The Wizard in Oz (mini-series)
Marvel Universe Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes
Marvel Universe Ultimate Spider-Man
Toy Story (mini-series)
DC:
Green Lantern: the Animated Series
Superman Family Adventures
Young Justice
Scooby Doo, where are you?
Anyone else know of any kids or all ages books? I'm sure there will be some free kids books for Free Comic Book Day on May 5th.

You're omitting the incredibly good Disney Fairies line by Papercutz (http://www.papercutz.com/disneyfairies/) which are in graphic novel format but they still count.
Also include the fun Dorothy in Oz prequel (http://emeraldsoz.blogspot.com/2012/04/dorothy-of-oz-prequel-now-out.html) series from IDW.
Also the Peanuts series from KaBoom (http://www.kaboom-studios.com/series/title?series_id=770&name=Peanuts) is a fun read for fans of the comic strip of all ages.
